In Loving Memory of Joni Carlson (1956-2023)
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joni
Michelle Carlson, a devoted mother, grandmother, beloved sister, and cherished friend.
Joni left this world on May 23, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that
will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Joni Carlson was born on December 26, 1956, to Emmett & Marlene Carlson in North
Minneapolis. Growing up in that neighborhood taught her the value of hard work,
resilience, and the importance of family. Despite the challenges she faced, Joni's
indomitable spirit and determination guided her through life's adversities, shaping her
into the remarkable woman she became.
As a mother, Joni's love knew no bounds. She was blessed with four wonderful boys
whom she raised with unwavering devotion and selflessness. Her love for her children
was the driving force behind everything she did. Joni worked tirelessly to provide for her
family, ensuring that they never went without the necessities of life. She instilled in her
sons the values of compassion, perseverance, and the power of laughter, which would
become their guiding lights as they embarked on their own journeys.
In 2016, Joni welcomed her only grandson, Dylan Michael Carlson II, who she referred
to as her “whole heart”. They were two peas in a pod and Lil’ Dylan is heartbroken yet
comforted as his Grammy has “completed her circle of life”.
Beyond her role as a mother and grandmother, Joni was a beacon of light to all those
who crossed her path. Her warm and loving nature made her a friend and second
mother to many and a source of comfort to those in need. Her infectious sense of humor
could brighten the darkest of days, and her laughter was a symphony that filled the
hearts of those around her. Joni had a remarkable ability to find joy in even the simplest
of moments, reminding us all to appreciate the beauty in life's small pleasures.
Joni's memory will forever be treasured by her beloved sons: Dylan, Jerad, Trevor, and
Gage. She was their guiding star, their source of strength, and their biggest fan. They
will carry her love and teachings in their hearts, ensuring that her spirit lives on through
them.
Joni Carlson leaves behind a void that can never be filled, but her legacy of love,
laughter, and kindness will endure. She taught us the importance of embracing life's
challenges with grace, finding joy in the simplest moments, and cherishing the bonds
we share with one another. Her memory will continue to inspire us to be better, to love
more deeply, and to make a positive impact on the world around us.
A celebration of Joni's life will be held from 1-3PM on June 1, 2023, at the Billman-Hunt
Funeral Chapel Home – 2701 Central Ave, NE Minneapolis, MN 55418. Family, friends,
and all those touched by her extraordinary spirit are invited to join in honoring the
remarkable life she led.
