Diane Helen Swanberg (Karbo), age 78, of Applewood Pointe in New Brighton passed away March 6, 2017, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Diane was born a twin to her brother Jerry in 1939.  Diane grew up in North East Minneapolis, with sister Dorothy and brothers Richard, and Jerry (deceased). Their father ran a service station and mother raised the kids.  Diane was a 1957 graduate of Edison High School.  The family spent their summers on Dunham Lake in Wisconsin.  She attended Minneapolis Vocational Practical Nursing School where she became a MN Certified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1959.   She worked at Toledo Ohio Hospital and Hillsdale Michigan Hospital.  She enjoyed boating on Hillsdale Lake in Michigan and was a good slalom water skier.

Diane was married to Gerald Swanberg for 30 years and was a loving mother to 4 children. Once her children were grown, she was a hospital volunteer at Unity hospital in Fridley, where she devoted over 1,500 hours of service.  She enjoyed socializing with high school friends, bowling, the Red Hat’s, and playing cribbage.

Diane is preceded in death by her father Eugene Karbo and Dorothy Karbo (Bradley), and twin brother Jerry Karbo.   She is survived by son Scott Swanberg (wife Joann) of White Bear Lake, son Craig Swanberg (wife Andrea) of Richmond, daughter Susan Pelagalli of Circle Pines and son Eric Swanberg (wife Anna) of Shoreview. She has 10 grandchildren Brittany, Jill, Austin, Paige, Carissa, Kasey, Emily, Callie, Alex and Riley.

Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25th at Billman-Hunt Funeral Chapel with visitation one hour prior.
